Mozy Cloud Storage Review: Are 6 Million Customers Wrong?

Mozy is a popular cloud storage provider based in Seattle, Washington with offices located around the world.  According to Mozy, they have more than 6 million customers and over 100K business customers globally storing 90 petabytes of data on their servers located in 16 data centers (FYI, a petabyte is 1000 terabytes).

Mozy Makes Cloud Storage Automatic

mozy cloud storageMozy’s aim is to make cloud storage an automatic process. Making cloud backup and data protection something you don’t have to think about is a great benefit. Let’s look and see how they do that.

With Mozy you can set up backups and they will then automatically occur on the schedule you specify. As the backup process occurs, your files are encrypted and stored in remote servers.

Data Backup Without Wasted Space

The backups are done in an intelligent way so that only new changes to files are stored, not multiple copies of the same data. This is the same way many storage services and even apps like Apple’s Time Machine work. If you backed up and made copies of the same data over and over, soon you’d run out of your allotted space (even if it’s “unlimited storage”). This is redundant (not in a good way) and is unnecessary. It’s not how your computer stores files, and there’s no reason to keep multiple iterations of the same exact data.

Mozy features three products that cater to different cloud storage users:

1.  MozyHome – Cloud Storage for Individuals

Mozy home features automatic or scheduled backups of any kind of files, file encryption, iPhone and Android mobile apps, a support community, technical support through live chat. And accessing your files is just a few clicks away.

MozyHome Pricing

$5.99 per month for 50 GB (on one computer).
Or $9.99 per month for 125 GB (up to three computers).

For either of the above, with a one year plan you get one month free. With a two year plan you get 3 months free.

If you need more storage than that, it’s $2 per month for 20 GB. And if you need to sync more computers it’s $2 per month per computer.

2.  MozyPro – For Small Businesses

MozyPro is cloud storage for small businesses. As a company grows, their data storage needs grow. You don’t want to be caught without adequate storage or using local hard drives to store data. That’s just a recipe for disaster. You can’t control everything, but you can do everything you can to prepare for problems. MozyPro uses automatic backup to secure a business’ data on multiple remote servers. Then those files can be accessed instantly from anywhere.

MozyPro Pricing

MozyPro has no setup fees and a very affordable price structure for small businesses. They offer 10 GB, 50 GB, 100 GB, 250 GB, and 1 TB plans, but here are a few to give you an idea of the range of prices (these prices are per computer):

$9.99 per month for 10 GB
$9.16 per month for 10 GB (1 year plan)
$8.75 per month for 10 GB (2 year plan)

$19.99 per month for 50 GB
$18.33 per month for 50 GB (1 year plan) $17.50 per month for 50 GB (2 year plan)

3.  MozyEnterprise – For Large Businesses

MozyEnterprise is for large businesses and corporations that need to keep large amounts of data secure. This level is for IT professionals who want to have full control of data and access through a web-based console. Contact Mozy directly for MozyEnterprise pricing.
